Hello friends, Washi tape is a versatile product in our Cocoa Daisy kits and can be used in both planners and memory keeping to add color and texture. The tape can be cut or layered in many unique ways including to create a banner, border, or background and this means backing cut files too! It is wonderful for filling in spaces, especially in all varieties of planners and notebooks. We challenged our design team to use washi tape in their memory keeping layouts today and so let's see what they created for us starting with Brande's traditional 12x12 page. "I love the bubble washi in the Traveler’s Notebook Memory Keeping Kit - so much so, I let it inspire my layout background!" "With some Distress Inks in the same blues and greens as the washi, I used a blending tool to create a full background focusing different colours in different sections. Then I sprayed water on stencils and pressed those to the blended ink - the water reacts with Distress Ink drawing some away and you are left with a cool faint stencil marking. Finally I finished it all of with some splatters of water and some of the Ranger Ink, Dina Wakely Acrylic Paint (Peacock) in the kit." "I then cut that mixed media background on a jaunty angle, added a second layer behind with a pattern paper from the kit, and a third layer behind that with the bubbles washi. Then using all 3 washi in the To the Sea collection I made strips of pattern to layer the photo on, rubbed some of the rub ons onto the mixed media to create an under the sea scene and voila!" "When washi is this fantastic - you use it to inspire your whole layout!" We love Brande's bold design and the fun angle she used to place her elements! Next we have a sweet memory planner layout from Rachel. "Washi is fun and versatile! For this spread, I wanted to show a few ways that I used washi to help these pages come together." "First, I love using washi in place of a decorative box. You can see with the days of the week washi, I ran a few strips on top of a scrap of sticker paper, trimmed it out and added to my page. I used the same technique with the water washi in the Saturday column. For both washi boxes, I added an embellishment to the center." "With the amount of washi we receive, you could make hundreds of these decorative boxes, and even add different washi together!" "Another great use for washi is add flips to your pages. This is super easy to do - add a strip of washi to the photo on top, and then add another strip of washi to the inside of the photo. You can also use washi to make flags and tabs, like I did!" "Washi is also a great embellishment for your boxes in you memory planner. In several places, I used washi strips from the memory keeping sticker sheet across the box to look like a little note. For the Thursday box, I drew the outline, added the washi, and found a clear sticker that fit perfectly in the outlined box! Don’t be afraid to rip or alter the washi to make it work best for you."
