Throwback Thursday: Give Old Photos New Life!

Do you have older photos that have not made it into a memory-keeping spread? Well, there is no time like the present to get those memories documented! To help get you going, we have three examples from our Creative Team that we think will inspire you to get creative with those cherished moments.
Jennie accepted the challenge and we love what she created with her throwback story.
I had this photo that I hadn't ever documented the story and I knew this was the perfect opportunity to get this on paper. I thought the Afternoon Tea Collection was perfect thanks to the yellows in the photo [accents!] and in the kit. I wanted to keep the layout fun since the photo is lots of fun and so is the story. Yellow really does seem fun to me!
I kept the left side simple and that meant layering 3 patterned papers behind the photo, using the yellow gingham as the photo mat. The photo was enough, I didn't need anything competing with that. But on the right side of the page? Game on!
I love creating an eclectic design but I also love making designs linear and this layout is those two things exactly! Including the journaling in the embellishing was so fun and I absolutely love the results.
Speaking of journaling, one of the things I liked best about going back and documenting a story from five years ago was that it wasn't lost yet. I still remembered enough details from the day to tell this story. Who knows if that would be true in 5 more years?

Jil used colors from the Koi Pond Collection to pick her photo and to document this wonderful story.
I had quickly documented this story in a notebook entry in 2019, but I wanted to include the photo and story in my 12X12 albums, and this "Throwback Thursday" theme gave me the nudge I needed. The colors in the photo are also just right for the sienna and yellow tones Koi Pond Collection.
The story: I ran into a former student of mine (on the right in the photo, in the ruffly yellow dress) while attending a downtown art hop. I didn't know she was an artist, and it was such fun to reconnect and learn a little more about her.
Life is pretty amazing indeed! I knew the large tag from the Memory Keeping Classified Kit with this sentiment would help me tell this story.
I also decided that I would evoke a little gallery wall of art on my page above the photo, using die cuts and stickers of flowers, fans, birds, and koi fish--so much fun! I used the white foam phrase stickers on my photo. The "documented" rub-on serves as a heading for my handwritten journaling. Finishing touches include glitter dots, a little washi tape, a velvet ribbon + puffy flower on the tag, and a sprinkle of gold and brown ink. I made sure to date my page so I will remember to file it away in my 2019 12X12 album. Now I'm motivated to return to older photos and stories to capture these stories before the memories fade!

I love taking old photos and giving them new life on my scrapbook pages. This is a photo of mini-me at about 2 years old. As a tip, instead of scanning the photo, I snapped a picture of it in decedent light and then printed it out. It's a great way to scrap old photos without using the actual photo.
This layout for me is super simple but packed full of whimsy and fun. I started with some watercolors from my stash and did my best to recreate one of the papers from the memory-keeping kit. If you don't have watercolors, but want to scraplift this, grab the Koi Pond 12x12 paper pack for some pattern paper that matches.
Once dry, I added some of the black rub-ons around where my photo would be placed. And, that perfect vacation sentiment was great to tell my story! After completing this part, I popped up my photo with pop dots from my stash.
I finished the layout of mini-me with the "summer fun" white foam stickers and some of those beautiful playful Koi stickers found in the Koi Pond Traveler's Notebook Memory Keeping Kit. I added a pop of color with the Koi fish to balance the black and white of the rub ons. Ok, Daisies, I hope this inspires you to give your old photos some new life!
