The Elegance, Warmth, and Wholesomeness of Brown in Your Memory Keeping

The Elegance, Warmth, and Wholesomeness of Brown in Your Memory Keeping
Greetings! Brown is a truly lovely color that sits on the warm side of the color wheel along with red, orange, and yellow. It's probably not the first color you notice in a rich and vibrant autumn landscape. And yet, brown has a quite a diverse range of hues including taupe, camel, chocolate and red. Some of the paler browns like camel are sophisticated while darker hues like chocolate feel rich and luxurious. In modern design, brown is used to create a warm and earthy understated feel. This amazing color helps us to connect with the wholesomeness of nature and gives us a sense of being grounded. And that is precisely why Audrey and I have challenged each other to share our love for brown's amazing hues with you today! Audrey notes, "I couldn't wait to tackle this challenge as the Acorn Lane kit is packed with such gorgeous rich browns to play with. Because my cat, Barley is orange, a complimentary color to brown, I decided to focus this layout on her." "I started in my stash, using a dotted Christmas stencil and some distress oxide inks (Gathered Twigs (Brown) and Fossilized Amber (Yellow)) and blended them to make a background in the bottom left and top right corner. I chose this stencil to match the background of the cozy journal card found in the memory keeping pocket kit. I also couldn't resist adding a rub on gnome, who is gazing lovingly at Barley in the bottom corner." "While the ink dried, I punched 1 1/2 inch circles in the brown flower paper and the brown plaid paper from the kits. I then glued them down, rotating the patterns, three in a row. I then stamped 'Warm and Cozy' and 'Autumn is a State of Mind', alternating each, in a row down the right side. I used the Cocoa Daisy brown ink from the collection this month. I love it when Cocoa Daisy adds some mixed media elements to the kits to help me play." "I finished up this layout by placing my 4x6 photo of Barley on the right and a 3x4 journal card on the left in a grid type style. To add dimension, I added three circle chipboards that match the secondary colors of the brown papers, 'totally worth it,' 'noted,' and 'cozy' and scattered some sequins from the Flannel and Frost collection the top left and bottom right corners. I really love how all of the Cocoa Daisy elements from all the kits are interchangeable and can be used in all my layouts. Finally, I used the brown Le Pen from the Flannel and Frost kit to draw a border." "I really love the "comfy and cozy" vibes that this brown focused layout of my baby girl puts out." We love Audrey's repeated elements and the mixture of our October and November collections. Her layout radiates the loveliest warm and comfy feeling. I love the autumn browns so very much because they fill my heart with warmth, therefore I decided to focus on the items from the Acorn Lane collection to create an opening layout in my album. This layout is actually my letter to autumn. I chose the gorgeous dark chocolate patterned paper as the background for my letter which is printed on vellum to ensure the amazing @linouspots design shines through. And I did add just a tiny bit of stitching. While autumn is filled with leaf, pumpkin, and harvest shapes, I wanted to highlight my love of this season and decided to add stitched hearts around my layout. They are made with the brown section of another patterned paper in the Acorn Lane memory keeping kits. And of course, I couldn't simply write a letter. I had to include one of my favorite photos of brown leaves from a few weeks ago along with this wonderful pocket card reminding us to be grateful for all that we have right now. I know this letter will remind me of all the fun I am having walking around our neighborhood with my pups and to savor my special time with our old boy, Scooboo Bear. Below I am sharing a short walkthrough of my layouts with some thoughts on the color brown.
