Mixed Media with Tulip Time

Welcome to a mixed media Wednesday here at Cocoa Daisy. The design team is sharing a 12x12 design and a TN layout with our Tulip Time kits, both of which incorporate mixed media techniques. Let’s begin with Jil’s traditional sized design.
“My mixed media technique for this 12x12 layout was simply to spray navy ink through a large floral stencil for a dramatic background. I then built a layered paper block from the bottom of the page with my photo placed just above these layers.”
“My layout is about experimenting with watercolor and real flowers in my art, and so my photo features vivid greens, red, and yellow--just right for the colors in Tulip Time, and especially for the papers I selected for my layers.”
“The small striped layer just below my photo was made with the blue brush marker included in the kit, and it helped me call attention to my focal point photo while also add another artsy touch. Die cuts, stickers, and stamps highlight both my photo and my journaling.”
“Along the edge I repeated the layers, and I loved pulling in another of those charming birds from the patterned paper!”
Now let’s see what Odessa created for us. “Tulip Time is packed with cheery colour! I used a combination of the kits to make this Traveler’s Notebook page, the kits I used the most are the Pocket Memory Keeping Kit, Memory Keeping Sticker Kit and the Memory Keeping Classified Kit.”
“I’ve been itching to do some stitching so once I figure out a basic layout with the three photos on a 4x6 journal card I started thinking about where to stitch.”
“I love all the blues and yellows in Tulip Time so I found some yellow yarn and got busy poking holes to thread it through. I kept it simple with yellow stripes on the blue stripes.”
“After I finished the stitching I added a sprinkling of blue and yellow embellishments with a wee touch of red to finish it up. The Memory Keeping Classified Kit came with some cute tickets, some with holes punched in them. I used one of them and added a cute bow through the holes to finish up the page.“
Jil and Odessa’s designs are lovely and the mixed media techniques they used are easy to incorporate into your memory keeping layouts. Jil used a stencil and spray ink to create her stunning blue background. Odessa’s layout can be created with embroidery floss and a paper piercer which can also be found online or in your local craft store.
