Hi friends!
Whether you have too much to say or you are trying to keep your thoughts personal, there comes a time in memory keeping where you may need to make room for hidden journaling. Our Creative Team is ready to share their techniques for hidden journaling in their layouts.
Renee uses pockets and flips to accommodate extra photos and journaling in her memory planner.
Quite often I find myself running out of room for journaling once I have laid out all my photos for the week in my Memory Planner. Whenever this happens, I like to create hidden pockets or flips that allow me to include my journaling or extra photos. Both options are quick and quite simple to make. To create the flip I glued my photo(s) to the bottom corner of a piece of white cardstock, then cut the paper to that width. I folded the cardstock in half right above the photo using my bone folder to make sure I got a good crease. I adhered the flip to my layout, then added my journaling (or extra photos) to the inside. I included an extra layer to my ‘in the news’ flip by cutting another piece of cardstock the same size, folded in half, then adhering it to my first piece.
Adding that extra layer made the flip quite thick so I needed to add a tab to hold it down. To create the tab, I used a sticker from Afternoon Tea Memory Keeping Sticker Kit, stuck it to a piece of cardstock to make it sturdier, cut off the extra cardstock, then used double-sided tape and a staple to hold the tab in place. When I adhered the flip to my planner I used double-sided tape along the bottom and sides leaving the top open, creating a hidden pocket behind the flip to add extra photos. On the second flip, I included the polka dot tab from the Afternoon Tea Modern Memory Keeping Kit to the top part of the flip before I adhered the photo. That way, it is hidden behind the photo and acts as a tab to open and close the flip. For the third flip, I utilized the hexagon cardstock sticker from the Afternoon Tea Modern Memory Keeping Kit and the ‘important’ sticker from the Afternoon Tea Planner Add-on Kit to the top of my photo to create the tab. The pen on the inside of the flip came from Afternoon Tea Modern Memory Keeping Kit.
I needed a place to add the story of how my nephew celebrated his 13th birthday so I added a 3x4 pocket card from the Afternoon Tea Modern Memory Keeping Kit. To attach the card, I used clear tape on the front of the card and folded it around the backside of the previous page. This created a hinge for the card and allows it to flip open and closed. I cut a small square of washi tape from the Afternoon Tea Travelers Notebook Memory Keeping Kit and folded it in half to work as a tab to help open the card. I added my journaling on the inside then added the pencil cardstock sticker from the Afternoon Tea Travelers Notebook Memory Keeping Kit at the bottom. The pre-cut envelope and journaling card that came with the Afternoon Tea Travelers Notebook Memory Keeping Kit worked perfectly to add a decorative element as well as a place to add more journaling. I was very excited to discover that the Afternoon Tea Classified: Memory Keeping Kit included a template to create more of these cute little envelopes! On the right side of the layout, I created a vellum pocket so I could add journaling behind the photos. To create the pocket I cut a piece of vellum .5 inches larger than the photos, I scored the vellum .25 inches in on the bottom and both sides then folded it over using a bone folder. I used a circle punch at the top of the envelope then added double-sided tape along the bottom and side folds then added to my planner.
I adhered my photos to the top of the vellum pocket then added my journaling to a tag from the Afternoon Tea Modern Memory Keeping Kit. and tucked it inside the vellum pocket. I added the ‘enjoying the day’ cardboard sticker from the Afternoon Tea Modern Memory Keeping Kitto the bottom of the tag but once I stuck it down I found that it created too much bulk to the tag so I used Christine’s tip and pulled away a few on the bottom layers of cardboard.

Hello! Today I am using the pieces from Afternoon Tea Modern Memory Keeping Kit in my memory planner. Let me tell you how gorgeous this kit is! The colors are fabulous and all these cute elements are so adorable! I created a clear window pocket to hide photos and extra journaling. First, the little envelopes in this kit are also a great way to hide journaling and other tags and bits!

First, I stitched some letters from the Afternoon Tea Travelers Notebook Memory Keeping Kit onto clear transparency sheets. Then I stitched the sheet onto some pattern paper but left it open on one side. Super easy way to add extra journaling. Happy crafting friends!
Do you ever feel the need to document something personal but don't want everyone to see it? Audrey does.... so cue the hidden journaling!
I then decorated the pocket with some embellishments from the Afternoon Tea Collection to give it some dimension and overall flair.
For the tag, I cut some string from the bags that the kits come in and tied it around the hole.
On the back of my tag, I did my journaling. I first stamped one of the quotes that fit my journaling along with the cute pen and journaled to my heart's content! I can't wait to see how you come up with hidden journaling! Cheers!
