For the Love of Circles

For the Love of Circles
Hello Cocoa Daisy friends, Happy Friday! Our design team members Sabrina, Brande, and Rachel have created layouts focusing on circles with the Serengeti kits. Circles are a great way to add interest to a design, bring the eye to a focal point, and use our exclusive papers! Let's begin with Rachel's design. "I am sharing a memory planner spread focusing on the theme of circles. With a template that is very rectangular, it is nice to switch it up with circular elements. This is also a great way to use up the papers from the memory keeping kits.“ “For this spread, I started with the big circles cut from the pattern papers along the side bar. To make these circles, I used a circle photo crop from Simple Stories, but you could also use a circle punch, or even trace cups and cut along the traced line. My placement of the circles was somewhat random, but I did try to vary the size of the circles along the side of the page.” “To print the photos, I selected the photos in iPhoto, used the “custom print” to print all of the photos at 1.5x2.5 in and printed on letter size matte photo paper. If you liked to see this process in action, head to my YouTube Channel to view this video.“ “Going with the circle theme, I decided to crop some of the photos into circles and make clusters based on the highlighted events of the week. For the circle cropped photos, I trimmed several so that they would appear flush with the week day columns. For some visual interest, I varied which side of the circle column was flush with the column.” “I love using the card-stock stickers from the Memory Keeping Kits to add little title and embellishments to my photo clusters.“ “Thanks for stopping by and taking a look at this memorable week in my memory planner!” We love Rachel’s idea to mix photo and patterned paper in circle shapes to create her layout. Next, we have a lovely TN design from Sabrina. “For this project I knew that I was going to do some type of a circle design and I decided that 2 inch circles across both travelers notebook pages would create a striking design.“ “I got out my 2 inch circle punch and my 1.5 inch scallop punch to create the two rows of circles. The scallop circles were for adding layering and also a place to put stickers.“ “I also used a journaling card to accentuate the theme of summer and created a hidden pocket for my Thursday 3 card.” “I went with all the bright oranges, reds and yellows in the Serengeti kit. I absolutely love how this one came together and it was so much fun to come up with a circle design.“ Our final design with circles is from Our new DT member, Brande. “I absolutely love using circles in memory keeping - they are such a fabulous way to show ALL the pattern papers and die cuts and more on a single layout without overwhelming the photos or story ...and with this Serengeti collection, I had to use ALL the things. Wow! “For this layout I mostly focused on goodies from the Traveler's Notebook Memory Keeping Kit. I covered a scrap piece of paper in the washi and cut that into circles, found all the circle die cuts, the enamel dots (circles) and even the florals from the rub-ons (also circle shaped!) and created a grouped cascade down the page. This was my first layout with the kit so I didn't have the heart to cut into a full, new piece of pattern paper but after finding all these other great bits - I didn't need to!” “After laying out my general design on a white piece of cardstock though I felt like a little something more was needed. The stencil in the TN Memory Keeping Kit and the coordinating exclusive stamping ink cube to the rescue! I created a simple animal print background by rubbing a dry stencil brush on the stamp pad and then in a circular motion deposited ink across across the stencil pattern. I did this a few times top to bottom of the page to create an "anchor" for my circles. I few matches splatters finished it off.” “While stamping I also decided to give the animal print stamp in the TN collection a try too. I used it and the inks included in this kit and the Memory Keeping: Pocket Kit to create a great two tone animal pattern - which I then cut into circles and used as part of my clusters on the page.” “I loved this collection in circles so much, another layout is in the works but this time with the Serengeti Classified: Memory Keeping Edition kit - coming soon to a social media site near you!” We'd love to see your circle design ideas!
