Jil Larson: Embellishing Pocket Pages

I love embellishing all my projects, but dressing up pocket page cards makes me especially happy. I enjoy the challenge of working on the individual cards and photos while being mindful of the cohesive design of the spread as a whole. My theme for this mid-June page was unplugging and allowing myself relaxing introvert time in the summer. I built my "Mid-June vibes" message on top of a photo of my journal from June 17 to emphasize how much I've been enjoying journaling. I embellished the photo by stamping "June" and using alpha stickers and labels from the Spice Market Collection on a cut-up card. The labels with bits of handwriting occur throughout the spread to unify through this embellishment choice. I varied the labels a bit. Three are from the Spice Market Memory Keeping Sticker Kit. One is a die-cut label with stamping "take note of this moment" and vertical orientation. On the lower right card, I stamped a full tag and journaled a bit on it for a larger embellishment of this sort. Besides labels and tags, I used the beautiful transparent mandalas to embellish two areas (over my stamped tag and over one of the pears in my photo on the left). You'll notice that the postage stamps from the kit appear on six of the cards, sometimes in partial form (again, for variety). Another thing to notice is how I often embellish along the edges of my cards or photos. One example of this is my use of washi tape on the flower photo. I mainly embellished the lower left card with chipboard from the Spice Market Modern Memory Keeping Kit, which also appears on a few of the other cards. I love the paper from the collection, so I punched tiny circles to use as confetti. Again, this is primarily on one card (that beautiful lemon illustration!), but a bit elsewhere, too, to tie it in. I love the trim in the Spice Market Classified: Memory Keeping Kit, so I stitched a bit at the top of my lemon card. This embellishment helps me tie the bright lemon into the darks in the photos and cards, while also working a bit along the edge, a technique I adopt elsewhere on the page. This is a lot! You may embellish with a lighter touch, but I hope that in all these examples, you find a new embellishment idea you would like to try!

Traci Reed: Embellishing a Three Page Design

Embellishments are ALWAYS my jam and I like to add just one piece short of "too much" on all my pages! for this 3-piece spread about our recent trip to Chicago, I decided to focus on two main embellishments from the Spice Market Collection, the decorative chipboard pieces, and the die-cut postage stamps.
I used the chipboard pieces from the Spice Market Traveler's Notebook Memory Keeping Kit across all 4 sides of the spread to create a cohesive design element that drew both the left and right sides together. When you have a middle insert as I have here, it can sometimes feel like two separate spreads instead of just one.
I then used the postage stamps to create a little bit of horizontal width for my photo stack on the left-hand side of the spread.
There were already so many busy patterns happening on the page I decided against adding more patterned paper. I chose to omit the stamps from the right-hand side because I used the TN insert with the stacked plates and didn't want to cover them up. It's always about balance when using a lot of embellishments!

Renee Senchyna: Embellishing a Travel Story

I love using embellishments to add that extra pizzazz to my layouts. Adding the perfect embellishment(s) can make an otherwise simple layout bright, colorful and fun! I used products from this month’s Spice Market Collection to create a page in my ‘travel’ themed Simple Dori documenting my daughter’s recent trip to Greece.
On the left side of the page I started by adding the word Greece underneath the quote using the sticky cardstock letter stickers from the Spice Market Classified: Memory Keeping Kit, I added a cardstock sticker from the same kit, then added 2 of the word phrase cardstock stickers from the Spice Market Traveler's Notebook Memory Keeping Kit on top. Whenever possible I like to add my embellishments in groups of three.
At the top of the page I added one of the clear acetate embellishments from the Spice Market Modern Memory Keeping Kit, then added 2 more cardstock stickers from the Spice Market Modern Memory Keeping Kit and the Spice Market Traveler's Notebook Memory Keeping Kit on top and used my small stapler to attach all 3 to my layout.
On the right side of the page, I used one of the chipboard stickers from the Spice Market Traveler's Notebook Memory Keeping Kit in the top corner. The square in the middle of the page came from the Spice Market Traveler's Notebook Memory Keeping Kit and the two stamp stickers came from the Spice Market Modern Memory Keeping Kit, once again I added them in a group of three. I also created a flip so I could add journaling underneath my photo. To create the flip I cut a piece of white cardstock the same width as the photo, adhered the photo to the bottom edge of the paper then folded the paper behind and cut it to the height I wanted – I like to leave a little bit of cardstock sticking out at the bottom to show that there is something underneath. Once my flip was cut to the size I used a cardstock sticker from the Spice Market Traveler's Notebook Memory Keeping Kit to create a tab to lift the photo, I added an additional phrase sticker from Spice Market Modern Memory Keeping Kit to the back side to make the tab sturdier.
On the inside of the flip I added one of the rub-ons from the Spice Market Modern Memory Keeping Kit as a background, I wrote my journaling on a clear sticky note then stuck it down on top of the rub-on with another one of the word stickers from the Spice Market Modern Memory Keeping Kit. As you can see adding a few embellishments to your layout can make such a big difference!
