Converting Memory Keeping Designs to a Different Size
Hello and Happy Wednesday,
Do you see designs you’d like to scrap-lift and use in your memory keeping but you hesitate because you don’t document your stories in the size of the layout you’ve fallen in love with? Well today we are going to show you how to convert a 12x12 to TN and a TN to a 12x12 size. DT members Ria and Jil will be sharing their conversions and ideas with us. Let’s begin with Ria’s 12x12 conversion to TN.
“The Cocoa Daisy boards are always an awesome place to find inspiration when you feel like trying something new or doing something different. One design that caught my eye was this 12 x 12 layout by Sarah King for Cocoa Daisy from years back.”
“I love how she used the tags as part of her design. Our Cocoa Daisy Love Notes kit had a special pack of tags and they were perfect for a project like this. I took inspiration from Sarah’s work and laid out my tags in the same way she did. I printed my photo in 2x3 to match the size of the tags. I also found several ephemera and sprinkled them near my photo.”
“When I look at most of my memory keeping layouts, I find that I always have a ‘formula’ design that I tend to overuse. Looking through the Cocoa Daisy Pinterest boards gave me fresh ideas and inspiration, so I hope you check it out too.”
We love the way Ria used the tags from the Love Notes kits to mimic Sarah’s design. It’s a clean and simple idea that you can recreate in any sized medium including pocket pages. And as Ria notes, there is lots of inspiration on the Cocoa Daisy Pinterest boards! Next we have a TN to 12x12 design by Jil.
“One of my goals for 2020 is to make more 12X12 pages, so I took my inspiration for one from a recent notebook page I made based on a Cocoa Daisy sketch.”
“I've been drawn to kraft paper lately, so I raided my stash for that. In March, I'm focusing on painting nature in watercolor. Using the lovely alpha stickers from the Orchard Path kits for my title, I placed it above a photo illustrating my paints and the art in my sketchbook.”
“From there I re-created the collage of labels, die cuts, and stickers on my TN page along the left edge of my 12x12 page. Orchard Path gave me lots of possibilities for these details! I drew out the greens, grays, and peachy tones of the kit by using the new Tim Holtz glaze over plain stamped labels.”
“I used the sentiment stamps from the kit on some of these, too. I also picked up the colors with some transparency hearts from my stash to form a visual triangle and draw the page together. The floral hearts and leaves in the kit were perfect for the theme of my page!”
Wow! Jil’s collage down the left side of her 12x12 design is amazing! And she draws us around her design with the 3 splashes of color as well as the hearts. A collage is a wonderful technique to scrap-lift and use in all memory keeping mediums.
