Greetings Daisies!
I wanted to start with a quick announcement. We have added a new "printables" category which you can use to search the blog for examples of designs using our printables. To search simply click on the term "printables" from the categories that are listed after the date as shown below.
You can also select from the Categories pick list at the bottom of a post as pictured here.
Searching using categories will result in a list of posts with the category you chose displayed on your screen. Please let me know if you have any questions via the comment option on today's post.
Now lets take a look at the traveler's notebook designs using the Up & Away kits that our design team is sharing today. Our first design is by Evy and she featured the free COVID-19 printable in her layout.
"For this layout I decided to used the COVID-19 freebies which you can find here on the Cocoa Daisy site as well as stamps from the March Orchard Path kits."
"I want to remember this quarantine period that we are experiencing and that has lasted for me for over a month now! I started on the right page choosing a black and white photo to enhance the colors of the die cuts, then I added the striped washi and a couple of stamps."
"On the left, as a title, I chose a pocket card that is part of the free files, a couple of die cuts, stamps and a small caption. To give a little movement, I thickened the card with the double-sided tape and inserted a tag with raffia underneath."
"A very simple project that reflects this period that is making us rediscover simple things: food, family, reading and love for others."
Evy's layout is the definition of simple elegance and we love the color palette she created with her combination of items from Orchard Path and the free COVID-19 printable. Gorgeous documentation and positive focus on the good in the middle of it all. Next we have a lovely design by Traci for one of her challenge projects.
"For my traveler's notebook spread, I decided to create a page that showed a dichotomy, a before and after, or the two sides to a coin. I took a series of photos for my #everydayselfielove challenge and because I didn't know quite yet what story I wanted to tell with my photo, I had various expressions on my face from content to exasperated."
"I initially chose a content photo (the large one) but as the spread evolved, I chose to also print one of the exasperated looking photos as well. This was mainly a choice based on the card that says "list of things I am currently doing well." I don't know if that card was meant to be snarky by the designer (only two slots, lol) but it sure felt snarky during this time period when I think not a lot of us are doing much very well."
"I made the design decision to divide up the spread with an insert in the middle and on the back side of the divider chose the card that says "just chilling, relaxing, snacking, netflixing" to pair with my exasperated photo as I have been doing a LOT more of that lately."
"In the end, I love the way the spread tells a story and shows two sides to it. Yes, I'm being creative and getting a lot more done, but this time is still HARD and the struggle is real."
Traci has a process video for her layout here.
An excellent layering technique example and a great way to tell the whole story. Traci used pocket cards, papers, die cuts, alpha stickers and items from the classified kit as well as our subscriber printable for the Up & Away kits. Stay safe and be well!
