Rachel Newman: Theme-Inspired Spread

I don't have any particular affinity for birds. I'm not a bird watcher and would have difficulty identifying different breeds. That said, I had no trouble putting the bird theme from this collection to use, thanks to my bird-obsessed cat! On most days, you can find her stalking, crouching, and watching all the birds that fly and chirp around our apartment building. She is so bird-motivated that she accidentally pulled down a blackout curtain to get a better look at them (facepalm). When I flipped through the Paperie Simple Dori, I found this page with the birds on the line and knew this was the perfect foundation for this spread. The white space under the birds provided an open space for a large title. To make the title, I stamped "Bird" with the General Store Alpha Stamp Set and used puffy alpha stickers from my stash for the word hunting. The bird die cuts and stickers resting on the letter soften the title with a bit of whimsy. To add my journaling, I typed and printed the text on copy paper and adhered it to the journal card from the Paperie Modern Memory Keeping Kit. The strips of pattern paper from the Paperie Traveler's Notebook Memory Keeping Kit break up this text-heavy page and pull the spread together.   I am really into grid design lately, like putting a puzzle together! For the right side of the spread, I started by matting my photos with paper from the Paperie Traveler's Notebook Memory Keeping Kit and used the grid stamp from the same kit to separate the photos. Since my title was on the other page, I used the stamped grid for decoration, pulling in the "bird" "remember this" and "xoxo" stamps and die cuts to fill the space. The photo also had some negative space, perfect for a die cut and, yes, a few more birds!   I mentioned early that our precious Lil Cat had a happy (for her) accident that provided full access to the birds from our shelf in the bedroom. Just seeing this photo reminds me of this, so not much description was needed. The "this happened" sticker from the Paperie Memory Keeping Sticker Kit paired with a label from the Paperie Classic Sticker Kit was the perfect embellishment.¬†   Share your Simple Dori spreads with us by tagging @cocoa_daisy on social media or posting to the Cocoa Daisy Fan Page.
