Prompted: Using Kit Elements to Inspire Your Memory Keeping
Hello, friends! Sometimes, we need a little help to get started with a memory-keeping spread. Lucky for us, the Cocoa Daisy Memory Keeping Kits has a variety of little prompts to kick start your creativity. Today, our memory-keeping team shares how elements in the kits inspired their creativity. Ashley was inspired by the stamp set from the Treetop Canopy Modern Memory Keeping Kit. "Hello! I love the stamp set in the Treetop Canopy Modern Memory Keeping Kit. These days I am constantly reminding myself “It’s okay to grow slow”, so I knew I wanted to use that stamp as a prompt for this project. I kept it simple with a grid-style layout and highlighted three areas of my life where this gentle reminder is much needed. First, I printed three columns of journaling on a sheet of white cardstock from the Treetop Canopy Modern Memory Keeping Kit, and then I arranged my photos above it. I added foam adhesive to the back of the photos so that they would stand out from the page. Next, I used some colorful labels from the Treetop Canopy Classified: Memory Keeping Kit to emphasize extra bits of journaling and added foam tape for more dimension. Then, I added a chipboard heart above each photo. I love the way the colors perfectly match the labels. Finally, I inked half the sentiment and stamped it underneath each label. This element of repetition completes the page and makes the whole layout feel cohesive. I hope you feel inspired and remember slow progress is still progress. Happy creating!" We love how Ashley adapted the phrase on the stamp to work for her. Audrey got her creative spark from the snarky quote embellishments from the Poppy Fields Traveler's Notebook Memory Keeping Kit.
“Hello Cocoa Daisies!! Have you seen the kitschy phrase die cuts in the Poppy Fields Traveler's Notebook Memory Keeping Kit this month? I just love them. Each phrase speaks to my soul! The sentiment regarding throw pillows was just perfect to tell the story of my new couch.
I started this layout with paper squares using the beautiful blue papers from the collection. I used squares to loosely mimic the pillows on my couch. I placed the squares in a pattern on the left side of the page and then sewed a border. After I splattered some charcoal grey paint from my stash.
Then, I popped my photo up with pop dots from my stash and scattered dies cuts in blues, greys, and blacks that had sentiments to tell my story around the squares. I intentionally misplaced the die cuts in the middle of two squares for some dimension.
I ended this layout with a title in the grey script letters under the photo and then wrote my journaling on the top. I used the pen that comes in the main planner kit for my journaling. The silky ink has a perfect flow to get my words on paper. I just love this story of my couch and the Poppy Fields Collection was perfect to tell it.” That quote could not have found a better home than this adorable layout!
Natasha was prompted to create a "currently" list using the pocket cards.
For each month this year, I have been creating a "currently" favorites layout. In February, I created a Pinterest highlights page to capture my February favorites. For this month, I knew I wanted to use the repeated journal cards found in the Poppy Fields Pocket Cards Kit. Along with the journal cards I decided to use the bright green tag from the Poppy Fields Traveler's Notebook Memory Keeping Kitthat says “here and now.” These oversized tags work so beautifully punched and pop right into your album! I love the look of the different size elements in my albums and memory planners- I think it makes the album interactive and more interesting. On the backside of the tag, I wanted to add some color and visual interest to the background, so I used some distress oxides from my stash and a piece of plastic packaging to create this mixed-media effect. I also carry this look into a piece of white card stock from my stash for the right-hand side of my layout. After my background dried, I started with layering pieces of cut-down journal cards on top of and below the “Currently” card to frame my selfie. I embellished the tag with stickers and enamel dots. My favorite detail on this portion of the project is the mini paperclips found in the Poppy Field Classified: Memory Keeping Kitpaired with one of the adhesive-backed flags from the Planner Add On Kit. I finished it off with a little staple- simply because I thought it was such a cute touch! With my journal card “enjoying the little things” I cut each prompt into strips. I used the title on the card as a subheading on the tag below my selfie which leads me to the next side of the layout. With these prompt strips, I created a vertical pattern down the center of my page by using other horizontal elements (sticker word strips, March’s stamp set, and chipboard from the Treetop Canopy Traveler's Notebook Memory Keeping Kit) sandwiched throughout my journal card strips. To give it an organic flow I used different sized elements but centered it through one imaginary centered line. The mixture of products and colors ties in the tag on the other page. Using the journal cards, even if you are not a pocket page scrapbooker is a great way to help jump-start documenting your monthly favorites. I hope you feel inspired to look at your journal cards in a different way to keep things unique yet approachable on your next project.” There are so many great prompts on the pocket cards and we love how Natasha adapted them to work in her layout.
