Off the Page with Treetop Canopy
Hello, Friends! There is something so wonderful about memory-keeping spreads with embellishments that jump off the page or interact with page elements. Each month, our Memory Keeping Kits include items that are designed to give your projects the texture, layers, and whimsy you might be searching for. Today, our Memory Keeping Team focused on taking their designs "off the page". Jill shares a Simple Dori Traveler's Notebook spread with several dimensional and interactive features. "I've been enjoying creating interactive pages in my traveler's notebook, and the Cocoa Daisy kits make that so easy to do with tip-in cards, large and small tags, and adhesive pockets. I drew on the Treetop Canopy Collection to create this page called "Some of the Best Things in Life are Healthy." The green sweatshirt I'm wearing in this photo got me thinking about how lucky I am to love vegetables--and to be healthy, of course.       I pulled the "more & less" stamp from an earlier kit, stamped it on the back of a kraft paper tag, and typed out what I want more of and what less of when considering healthy goals. I colored "vegetables" in green pencil because that's the focus of my page and the main section of journaling, which I wrote under the long tag (which holds both the adhesive pocket and its pull-out kraft tag). I highlighted this journaling with a green colored pencil, too. The embellishments include labels, die-cuts, and border stamping at the bottom of the long tag and on the reverse. I matted my photo with paper from the kit as well as some kraft paper to match the tag. I also cut a couple of flowers from the patterned paper to pair with the leaf die cuts. The veneer arrow from the Treetop Canopy Classified: Memory Keeping Kit along with the tab along the left side of the long tag indicates that the long tag flips up. To complete this interactive page, I included some stitching, loose thread, and wood sequins from my stash. We can always count on Jil to inspire us with her use of interactive elements and fun layers, like the kraft paper matte of her photo. How cool is that Tag tip-in that also holds the adhesive pocket and another "off the page" element? If you are worried about your Simple Dori Traveler Notebook getting too bulky, you can always remove a few layers from the backing of the chipboard pieces. Audrey's 12x12 layout features several of the dimensional pieces from the Treetop Canopy Collection. "The dimensional embellishments in the kits each month are exceptional, and the Treetop Canopy Collection is no exception. This month, there are chipboard shapes, plastic words, enamel dots, and wooden veneer cutouts... just to name a few. For this layout, I decided to focus on these embellishments. I made it simple, starting with a watercolor strip and a splash of watercolor splatter. After the watercolor was dry, I randomly scattered the dimensional embellishments from the Treetop Canopy Collection on each side of my photo that I popped up with pop dots from my stash. For my title, "Being Together," I used the rub on alphas and the plastic word "together" from the Treetop Canopy Traveler's Notebook Memory Keeping Kit. By using the rub ons and the plastic word, I created layers that allow the dimensional embellishments to shine. I finished this layout by embellishing the bottom left corner with a few more pieces of chipboard and the cute sloth holding a beverage. I can't wait to see how you all use the dimensional embellishments of the kit!!" The watercolor paint foundation really balances Audrey's "off the page" pieces that look so whimsical around the page. Don't forget that your photo can also be part of the layers by popping the photo off the page with foam adhesive. We hope you were inspired to create something beautiful using your Treetop Canopy Kits.
