Hello, friends!
The Doodles & Dashes Collection features a generous array of black and white touches. If you are looking to create some contrast in your creative designs, consider making a black and white spread, with hints of color as our Creative Team has done in this post.
There is much fun to be had with black and white as Carol demonstrates in this layout.
"A new month means a new monthly spread and Y’all, I love September! I used the front piece of the Doodles and Dashes A5 Planner Inserts for the left side of this spread, adhering it down so that the tab would stick out off of the page. For the right side of the spread, I used the Doodles and Dashes Classified: Memory Keeping Kit, Doodles and Dashes Traveler's Notebook Memory Keeping Kit, andDoodles and Dashes Memory Keeping Sticker Kitto build all my layers for the intentions I’m setting this month.
Having the black text of the quotes was key to keeping the flow in this spread and I really like the varying fonts from rub-on quotes to clear stickers!
The frames, which, I cannot get enough of, were perfect for a photo of my daughter and me.
Frames aren't just for photos; they really work well to highlight words too. Underneath stickers and over watercolor splatters I did a bit of stamping with black ink using the circular clusters from the Traveler's Notebook Memory Keeping Kit. I’m feeling ready for a fresh season and explain a bit more in the video of how I’m using this particular planner right now. Hope y’all enjoy it!"
Black and white can be simply elegant as shown here on Aimee's Simple Dori Spread.
"I absolutely love scrapbooking with black. It is a quick way to give a layout a very graphic and high contrast look and I also find that it does an exemplary job at conveying emotion.
I chose a beautiful black leaf patterned paper from the Simple Dori in the Doodles and Dashes Traveler's Notebook Memory Keeping Kit to serve as a base for my layout.
Next, I wanted to add a pop of color to compliment all the black on my page so I picked out a bright coral acrylic paint and made some smudges behind my photo as well as the bottom of the page. I focused mainly on rub-ons and stamps for embellishments to keep the page relatively flat. I chose a variety of leaves, pluses, doodles, and sayings from both the Doodles and Dashes Modern Memory Keeping Kitand the Traveler's Notebook Memory Keeping Kit rub-on sheets.
I found that the, “be in the moment” rub-on saying tied in the coral shade from the acrylic paint perfectly and also helped to give some context and feeling to the layout. Quick, simple, beautiful, and high contrast. Super easy to achieve with Doodles and Dashes!"
Traci's bold spread is black and white perfection!
"I love color, but sometimes a girl needs to express her mood with black and white. I knew I wanted to focus on all the gorgeous black and white floral doodles in the Doodles & Dashes Collection, so I pulled them all out to create a border along one side of my layout. On the right, I used the black and white doodled vine paper from the Doodles and Dashes Traveler's Notebook Memory Keeping Kit that has teeny pops of color throughout and one of the cards from the Traveler's Notebook Memory Keeping Kit to create another pocket for my hidden journaling.
Stamps, rub ons, die cuts, AND chipboard went into creating a collage for me to layer a glassine bag over with my photo tags.
To really set the whole black and white mood off, I finished the whole page off by allowing little pops of color here and there throughout to bring in the color strips on that card."

Evy used a black and white photo to really make her spread stand out.
"I love black and white in combination with color; it always gives depth to the project and elegance.
This time I chose to print the photo in black and white to be able to play with colored embellishments. I printed this selfie in a format almost as large as the page because I wanted to show the colors of the page below that perfectly match the writing on the right page.
The right page was pretty much perfect as well and I played with black and white embellishments using chipboards, stamps, and rub-ons. I added the date and a little tab-diecuts and that's it!"
