Traci Reed: Make it Interactive with the Chapters of September Scrapbooking Kit!

Is it too early to be thinking about October Daily? Maybe—but I couldn’t resist getting a head start. I created two foundation pages using the Cocoa Daisy Chapters of September 12x12 Paper Kit, and the pattern-blocked papers did most of the heavy lifting. Each page was trimmed down to 8.5” tall by 10” wide, and I used the built-in 3” blocks as a template for interactive flaps.

What looks like a simple layout at first glance hides a lot of extra space. One flap includes a pocket and room for a future photo strip, while the other is built around a title made with the vellum stickers and washi from the Chapters of September Scrapbooking Kit. To finish things off, I backed each flap with journal cards to give them structure and create spots for storytelling and added sentiments.

I love using these kinds of flaps and hidden layers in my October Daily and December Daily albums. They allow you to tell a deeper story without overwhelming the design, and they add that little element of surprise that keeps the viewer engaged. It’s such a satisfying way to pack more into your album without making the page feel crowded.

If you’ve been wanting to try interactive elements in your album but didn’t know where to start, this is a great entry point. Let the paper guide your design, and build from there—sometimes all you need is a good pattern block to open up creative possibilities.
