It's All About the Hexagons in Your Memory Keeping and Planning
Hello and how is everyone doing?
We hope you are staying safe and well. On the blog today, we are exploring hexagons. Hexagons are one of the shapes that make regular appearances in memory keeping and planning. I'm always delighted when I see layouts with hexagons and so today we have four CT members sharing the creative ways they are using this shape in their designs. Let's start with a look at what Kristine has created for us.
"This week I am documenting my preparations for virtual teaching, and I loved the idea of the long paper strips with hexagonal accents. I thought about getting out my hex punch and making some hexagons from some of the papers, but between the hexagon stickers in the Planner Sticker Kit and the hexagon die cuts, I had plenty to work with."
"I used the stickers at the top of my spread to hold the date stickers, and I created a horizontal span across both pages with the die cuts. I used foam tape behind them to give a little lift off the paper, and I love that little added pop this technique gives." We love the way Kristine pulls pieces from the planner and memory keeping kits to create unique and thoughtful layouts in her Happy Planner.
Our next layout is from Brande and is a traditional 12x12 design. "Play with hexagons? Yes please!"
"I used a couple of hexagon dies in my stash (one that creates a strip of hexagons and another that makes singles) paired with the yellow and pink tones papers of the TN Memory Keeping Kit to create a soft hexagon ‘striped’ layout."
"The hexagons were used as a foundation for my photo - after lightly blending just a faint touch of soft yellow and pink on the background with a blending tool and distress inks. To give some dimension to the hexagons, I popped the yellow ones up on foam and kept the pinks flat to the paper - I love the inconsistent look of some popped and others not."
"Once these beautiful hexagons were on the page it was such a quick layout - one photo of me in my happy place (hiking) and then some of the grey phrase stickers as a multi work title! I just love how much design hexagons give a layout with so little extra work." Brande nailed soft and lovely with this gorgeous traditional layout.
Our next beauty is a traveler's notebook layout from Traci. She has a process video and a cut file to share as well! "I went into this layout with the goal of layering ALL THE HEXAGONS from the Solstice collection, but when it came down to it, after I backed my hexagons with that gorgeous pink and gold paper, I really wanted it to SHINE! So instead I went with a few strategically-placed die feathers and veneer stars and backed the largest hexagon with a fun journal card instead!"
"I included this cut file for the hexagon background on my blog post, so if you want to replicate my layout you can pick it up there!" We cannot get enough of Traci's bold and beautiful design! And along with the free cut file, Traci has a process video too which you can view here.
And last but most definitely not least, a 12x12 layout by Audrey. "This September my sweet and super awesome nephew will be two!! The rich blues, golds and yes some of the purple, along with the celestial sentiments of the Solstice kit were perfect to document his birthday."
"To start, I made my own cocoa daisy 12x12 paper by cutting a white piece of cardstock from my stash down to 11x11 and sewing it with blue thread onto a blue piece of cardstock from my stash. I then punched out hexagons from the papers found in all three kits and the Memory Keeping Classified kit and placed them around the page in a loose circle, making sure to extend them off the edge a bit. I started with the lightest colored paper in the center and increased the intensity of the color of the paper to the edge."
"I then used spray paints in marigold and denim blue colors from my stash to throw some splatter around the edges. I chose this photo of me and my nephew because of the red and blue colors in the photo. Red and blue are primary colors and compliment each other, so I knew that the warmth of the red would stand out perfectly against the cool blue backdrop of the hexagons. I used pop dots from my stash to pop up the photo to give it depth."
"Finally, I finished the layout with embellishments from the kits. I used those fun wooden stars by Freckled Fawn, which are found in the Memory Keeping Classified kit as an anchor for my loosely interpreted "Rule of 3" design triangle. I clustered some of the chipboard and die-cuts together at each point of the triangle to make the triangle stand out. I really adore how this layout of my sweet nephew came together. I can't wait to see what you create with this kit." Audrey's creative ideas for making 12x12 layouts with our kits never fail to amaze us!
