Having Fun With Flips in Memory Keeping Spreads

We are flipping out over these fun "off-the-page" designs from our Memory Keeping Team. As you will see, creating flips allows you the opportunity to play with space on your layout to add more journaling, photos, or a little bit of whimsy.

"I love having interactive elements in my layouts. I think it goes back to my favorite childhood books where there were flaps that lifted to reveal another picture or more of the story. I carried this idea into my memory planner layout this week.
As always the patterned papers from the Treetop Canopy Modern Memory Keeping Kit and the Treetop Canopy Classified: Memory Keeping Kit are gorgeous and coordinate fantastically with the kit colors. I started the week layout with flip-ups and tip-in's created using the pattern papers. The papers are double-sided which allowed for two different patterns to be highlighted - the one you see and then the one revealed when you lift the tab.
To visually mark where the paper lifts, I added some of the colorful label die-cuts in rectangle and circle shapes. Under the patterned paper showcases journaling and additional photos. I love that by using these you can add extra space to tell the story within your layout.
As Casie mentions, flips are a great way to feature both of the patterns on the pocket cards and papers from the Treetop Canopy Collection. Since Casie's memory is bound, adding flips is an easy way to create more room to document the details of the week.
Ashley brings a bit of whimsy to her layout with her fussy-cut flips.
"Flip-outs are so much fun to create! I used one of the large papers included in the Treetop Canopy Classified: Memory Keeping Kit to make this layout. The illustrations by Linou’s Pots are absolutely adorable, so I cut around the image to create an interactive treetop canopy scene.
Next, I printed my journaling on a sheet of white cardstock from the Treetop Canopy Modern Memory Keeping Kit and framed the layout with leftover fussy-cut bits and scraps. I used a stamp from the Treetop Canopy Modern Memory Keeping Kit for my title and embellished the page with a couple of die-cuts from the kit.
After that, I cut three 1-inch strips of coordinating paper from the Treetop Canopy Classified: Memory Keeping Kit and scored it down the middle to create hinges for the flaps. I used a bone folder to crease them for easy flipping.
Finally, I used rolling adhesive to assemble all the parts. I love how the three elements flip out to reveal my journaling. I hope you find a bit of inspiration to incorporate flip-outs in your own memory-keeping projects. Happy creating!

Carol ventures outside of the pocket to create a few flips for her pocket page spread.
"The first week of March is in the books...the scrapbook that is. This week was full of homeschool, nature walks, a hike with my sister-in-law, and toddler shenanigans.
This particular pocket page spread quickly came together using bits and pieces from the Treetop Canopy Modern Memory Keeping Kit and Treetop Canopy Memory Keeping Sticker Kit. Across the different cards, you will notice I added the alpha stickers for bold titles rather than jotting in notes with my pen. Chipboard pieces were an easy way to add movement across the two pages.
“Flip-up” cards were the perfect thing to add to this spread. I often do this when I have too many photos, photos that don’t “fit” the aesthetic of my layout, or want to use more of the pocket cards from the Treetop Canopy Modern Memory Keeping Kit. I will add a strip of washi to the top of that pocket card leaving half of the sticky part off of the edge.
Then, after I’ve inserted the photo in that particular space, I will add the pocket card +washi combo onto the outside of the protector, doing my best to line up the card with the photo. (If it’s not perfect I don’t stress!) doing this makes for a fun interactive element as we are flipping through our yearly album and I don’t find that I have too much trouble with the cards coming off. This is just a simple trick to get more cards and more photos on one spread plus, you are adding an element of fun!" A full week filled with wonderful memories!
