Embellishing with Fall Florals

Embellishing with Fall Florals
Hello, friends! We know fall is typically the season of crunchy leaves and pumpkins, but who can resist floral touches inside a fall-themed collection? Enter, the Gather Collection! While this collection definitely has some traditional fall feels, we love the twist found with the gorgeous fall florals with their rich array of colors. Let's see how our Creative Team used these fall florals in their designs. Using a leaf stencil, Audrey created a stunning cover for her album with her play on fall florals.
"When I saw that our prompt was "fall florals," my mind instantly went to leaves... leaves are fall florals, right? I decided to focus on the fun leaf stencil from the Gather Classified: Memory Keeping Kit and paint an old linen album.
I started by taking the stencil and tracing three leaves with a pencil on the front cover of the album. If you look closely you can see my pencil marks, I didn't bother to erase them. Once I had the three leaves drawn, I started with my paints.
I chose blue and yellow paint because they coordinate with the colors of the Gather Collection, the collection I will be using in this album. They are nontraditional fall floral colors so they make this album pop. I combined a few shades of blue, and some brown to add dimension and depth to my leaf.
Once the paint dried, I used the new subscriber exclusive stamp and Stayzon ink from my stash to stamp the sentiment and some other leaves across the album. The fun thing about this design is that it can translate into use with the other stamps in the set. The Gather Modern Memory Keeping Kit stamp set has a great set of florals that complement this design perfectly. Enjoy the process! Cheers friend!"
The florals in this collection worked perfectly with Natasha's beautiful sunset photo.
"I have always been a mega-fan of florals ever since I discovered paper crafting so I am always overjoyed when florals are a repeated element throughout the art of the monthly collections. November’s Gather Collection florals do not disappoint. I especially loved the muted sunflowers in this month’s ephemera packs so I knew I wanted these to be my main focus.
To start, I used a piece of patterned paper from the Gather Classified: Memory Keeping Kit and with some white texture paste, I added a light layer of texture using a stencil from my stash to play off of the movement in the florals which connects to the movement and softness of the clouds at sunset in my photo. After the texture paste had dried, I used some of Tim Holtz Distress Oxides to pull colors out from the floral ephemera onto the page to bring together the patterned paper and ephemera florals.
Once the foundation was ready, I began building the layers of paper around my photo. I like pulling from the journal cards to layer with as the patterns are a smaller scale versus a sheet of patterned paper. The journal cards also can offer a coordinating solid color background for layering, like the rust orange and deep lilac papers. Utilizing papers from the Gather SimpleDori is also an option too. I added the sunflower and teal patterned paper from the notebook to add even more beautiful layers and interest.
To bring balance as the weight of the layout was towards the bottom of the page, I added a strip of pattern paper to the top of the page with a floral element, and label. I really love how this layout turned out!"
Florals can decorate any layout, as Carol shows us below.
"Every year I like to create a layout to go into my children’s personal scrapbook albums for their birthday. Although this particular 12x12 layout is for my son, I did not shy away from the florals!
Using a white piece of card stock for my base layer, I added some cut-out and torn bits of paper in the top right and bottom left corners from the Gather Modern Memory Keeping Kit.
I love the circle paper and I felt like it played well with the pumpkins in my photo. To add to the mixed media vibe of the circles, I put some watercolor on the bottom of a coffee mug and “stamped“ even more circles for the background. Using a diagonal design, I layered floral pieces from the Modern Memory Keeping Kit, the Gather Memory Keeping Sticker Kit, and the Gather Classified: Memory Keeping Kit. This gave a multi-dimensional look.
If you look closely above the puffy alpha “eleven” title from the Modern Memory Keeping Kit, I snuck in a swirl of blue thread to flourish the die cuts further. Speaking of diecuts, many of us love the fact that they have adhesive backing on them! This has been such a game-changer while creating my layouts. For this layout, I wanted more dimension, so I chose to only peel off parts of the adhesive backing so that I could fold up bits of the floral and word die cuts. I just love how the “Thankful” pops. I love how diverse these kits can be!"
