November Planner Setup & Kit Favorites
The Acorn Lane collections are perfect for the month of November! There are a lot of gnomes, falling leaves and gratitude built right into the kit. I'll start by sharing some of my favorite kit items...
Creating Borders that Make a Statement with Washi Tape
Greetings!
Washi tape is a wonderful embellishment to incorporate in your memory keeping and planner layouts and you can always find some in your Cocoa Daisy kits. In fact, there are four different washi tapes in the Acorn Lane kits. While washi tape can be used to back cut files, cover embellishments, and create patterned backgrounds, our goal today is to inspire you to use your washi tape as a border in your designs. Let's start with this real-life layout from Rachel.
"I am so excited to be sharing a memory planner spread with you today. I have to be honest, October was not the greatest month for me. I spent most of the month in bed, recovering from COVID. I could easily chosen not to document this time, but I think it’s important to document the good and the bad."
"For this spread, I’m using the Acorn Lane memory keeping kits featuring a washi border. I decided to use two different washi’s for the border. To start, I placed several strips of the calendar washi down to cover the shaded boxes underneath. I ripped the leaves washi down the middle to give the washi an uneven edge and added it below the other washi. This helped to create a nice border between the washi “background” and the actual memory keeping elements."
"When building a memory planner spread, I like to look through the die cuts and stickers for inspiration. This kit had so many decorative elements that were perfect for documenting this week. I clustered several of the phrase die cuts down the Monday column and added a rub-on below it."
"I also like looking through the pocket cards, especially ones that I can alter for this format. I found two cards that (with a little tweaking) definitely helped tell the story of this week. I used one of the label stickers and alphas to change the “Home Sweet Home” pocket card to “Home Ugh Home” and trimmed it down to roughly 3x3 size. I trimmed off the “Highs and Lows” from a pocket card to act as my title for the right pages. The back of the card had little arrows, which I used to mark the high’s and low’s of the week."
"Despite this being a crummy week, I absolutely love how this spread turned out! Looking back, I found things to be grateful for, which made documenting this time so worth it!" Rachel's thick washi border is such a wonderful idea. It draws you right in to the entire two-page design and it beautifies the empty space in her memory planner.
Kristine created this beautiful layout to document her start to November. "For this layout, I was inspired by this large tree outside my condo - the yellow and orange leaves looked so pretty against the sky, and I wanted to do a sort of 'hello, fall' type of theme. The beautiful brown washi from the Acorn Lane Planner Add-On kit caught my eye right away, and I felt it was perfect for this page."
"I went through my stash and found a roll of brown glitter washi from a previous kit to accent the leaf roll, and made two simple but striking borders to anchor my pages. On the page with my photo, I added some die cuts, glitter dots, and the word 'November' cut from one of the 4x6 cards in the Pocket Memory Keeping Kit."
"On the right side, a square of pattern and a heart, both cut from 4x6 cards in the Pocket Memory Keeping Kit, give a little balance. More glitter dots, some falling leaves, and my journaling about fall finish this opening spread off for November." Kristine's start to November in her memory planner is just stunning!
Our final design today is a gorgeous 12x12 layout from Brande. She tells us, "For this layout I let the washi do the work! I created a border down the right side of my page using various lengths of ripped washi from the Acorn Lane collection. Then used the the washi fun as an anchor to tons of embellishments - die cuts, chipboard, enamel dots and fussy cut leaves too."
"With all the ‘busy’ on the right, I decided to use two photos with lots of embellishments on the left to give the page some balance. Including more of the fussy cut leaves, some rub ons and some splatters."
The splatters are the Cocoa Daisy dark brown ink included with the collection rubbed onto some plastic packaging, with a touch of water and a paint brush."
"I love how it turned out and am thinking I might build on this one to create a double page layout. Stay tuned, will share if I do!" Brande's washi tape border on her traditional layout is a lovely placeholder for all the details she used to create her border. We love Brande's placement of fussy cut paper leaves, rub-ons, die-cuts, enamel dots, and chipboard.
