Creating Black Accents with the Koi Pond Collection
Hello, friends!
Adding black accents to your memory keeping is always a win! The contrast of black with the colors of the Koi Pond Collection can make your designs pop! Our creative team agrees and is here today sharing their black accented spreads with you.

The Koi Pond Collection is absolutely beautiful and you really don't need much to jazz it up. But, for me, the best basic element to make anything stand out is using black accents. The same is true in fashion, we all love our little black dress, right?!
So, for this spread, I really played off of the beautiful patterned paper on the left side of the spread. After adding my title and photo, I included a sweet die-cut sticker with black detail and I matted my journaling onto some black card stock. I think it really makes the spread look sleek.
On the right side, I added that beautiful black & white patterned paper strip along with a few rub-ons and a little stamping in black.I also added a few enamel dots at the top for a little dimension. I really love how the black accents give the feel of sophistication to this spread, and since my photos are from a fancy night out, I think it works perfectly!

It was fun to play with colors from the Koi Pond Collection and black and white on a pocket page. My flower photo is the most vibrant, and I knew black would make the hot pink pop. My little touches of pink, yellow, and red are carried through the layout with glitter dots and stamping--and that pink heart to emphasize how much I love baby raccoons! All the green in the nature pictures goes with the teal dot card and the green leaf die-cut in the lower right. But the other photos feature darker colors, so the black I added ties them in and grounds the spread, besides adding contrast for the bright colors.
I used black and white cards, black rub-ons, black labels, borrowed from the Wayfarer Collection, though the rest of my spread is made with the Koi Pond Collection), and black die cuts. I especially like the black cloud to go with the "What I Need Right Now" card, which was perfect for my photo of a sweet reward after dealing with traffic and detours.
I journaled in a black gel pen and used the number die cuts to distinguish my different stories and include more dark neutrals. A little black polka dot washi from my stash, along with black thread and sequins provide the tiny black accents on this pocket page.
When rejoicing in the colors of a kit (something I always do!), don't forget to pull in the black to make those colors pop! Check out this video as a walk through the details of this pocket page spread.

Hello Friends, I love to add a pop of black around a colorful layout, it really makes the colors of the layout stand out! I started this 12x12 layout with a piece of 12x12 scrapbook paper from the Koi Pond Scrapbooking Kit. You can get this paper separately or in the scrapbook kit. The paper I chose has some black plants silhouetted on the side and was a perfect starting point for this layout.
Next, I cut some of the paper found in the Koi Pond Traveler's Notebook Memory Keeping Kit and Koi Pond Modern Memory Keeping Kit into 1/4-inch strips and adhered them to the left side. I really liked how this paper broke up the busy but beautiful watercolor background.
Next, I added a tag from the Koi Pond Classified: Memory Keeping Kit. I used the string from the bag the kits come in for the tag. I love being able to repurpose my supplies like this!
To finish, I added some black embellishments around the page, using some of the rub-ons and the Koi fish! This layout really came together well.
