A Design Focus on Corners and Borders

A few weeks back we challenged our Memory Keeping Team to create layouts that were center-aligned. For today's post, our challenge is the focus on the corners and borders of a spread.  Taking your design all the way to the corners and borders gives you the opportunity to play with photo and embellishment placement and, as you will see, creates a big impact on your layout.
April uses one of the cards from the Denim and Blush Traveler's Notebook Memory Keeping Kit and takes full advantage of the corners and borders in a neat way.
"I love utilizing corners to play with photo placement. For this page, I traced the photo, stamped leaves dancing off the edges, and layered alpha elements to complete a fun, simple page. The photo in the corner anchors the design."
April's choice of background paired well with this layout as the flower design is also aligned along the border, too. By having all the embellishments placed in a linear fashion, April creates a fun and funky vibe with her photo askew and coming off the bottom of the page.
Audrey went all out with her corners and borders using the Treetop Canopy Collection, and we are HERE for it!
As soon as the Treetop Canopy collection arrived in my mailbox I knew I had to use every single beautiful piece of this collection. To best utilize this stunning collection, to started my layout by working in from the corners. I started with a stencil and some distress oxides from my stash in the middle - the swirl pattern that would later be home to my embellishments.
After I cut the paper into 1-inch strips and glued them to the corners, I made sure to leave a bit of space for embroidery stitching. On the top right, I used one of the fun colorful monkey pages found in the Treetop Canopy Classified: Memory Keeping Kit. The whimsical, playful fun of the monkey accents my photo really well.
Once all the paper was glued down and my running stitch was done, I splattered some charcoal paint (again from my stash) to break up the page a bit and add some dimension.
Finally, I added some embellishments in all shapes, sizes, and textures in a very loose triangle shape on the left side of the picture. I absolutely love the rub-ons that come in the kits and the Tree Top Canopy ones are no exception! I definitely made sure to use all of the monkeys for this layout of my husband. Not only did Audrey beautifully incorporate the corners and borders of the page in her design, but she also mimicked this by adding an adorable cluster along the corner and border of her photo. This design is such a great way to highlight all the color and patterns in the Treetop Canopy Collection, while still allowing the photo and focus of the layout to shine.
