Taina Cortes: 12x12 Scrapbooking Layout

Hello, my crafty friends! Welcome back to the Cocoa Daisy blog. It is Tai from @momentstomemories.bytai on IG and I have a 12x12 layout for you today. I used the Big Sky 12x12 Scrapbooking Kit. The denim pattern paper in the kit is my favorite. I needed to create a layout where I would feature the denim. I also loved the other patterned papers and thought of creating ‘patches’ on my layout.

For the overall design, I went with a grid layout. A simple grid will keep balance. For my ‘patches,’ I went with hearts on circles and used a few dies and my manual die-cutting machine to do most of the initial cutting. I tried to include the lovely illustrations of the horses on some of the hearts as well.

The hearts on the circles alone looked great, but to take it up a notch, I pulled out my sewing machine and stitched around the edges of both shapes and then stitched down the middle to adhere them together. I made sure to leave the excess thread to added interest too. Now these elements look like ‘patches’.

Luckily, I recently took photos of my 6-year-old starting kindergarten in a denim jacket that is way too big for her. But she will grow into it over the years and by the time she graduates high school, the jacket should fit. She is wearing a blue denim jacket and these photos were destined to be on this layout. Once I had the overall placement of these patches, I used the rub-on elements from the  Big Sky 12x12 Scrapbooking Kit to add something to each patch. It created a mixed-media look to the layout.

For my title, ‘Keep Growing’ I used the brown alphas included in the kit and the bronze, silver, and gold enamel dots. I love the patches with the print and illustrations of horses make this layout special. It turned out amazing and I hope you found some inspiration with my project today. ‘Til next time.
