Making Cards with Your Leftover Papers
Hi my planner friends, it's Julie Deal Mooney here today to talk about what to do with those beautiful leftover papers you have from various kits over the past months or even years. Since we are on stay-at-home orders and I had all the time in the world, I pulled out some of the papers from the past kits that tied in with the colors of Up and Away. There were a ton of options since there is such a great rainbow spectrum of colors in this month's kit. Even though I get two sets of both the planner papers and the memory keeping papers, I don't have much leftover paper. Lucky for me, I had the email subscriber printable that I could use as well. If you don't subscribe to the Cocoa Daisy emails, you will want to sign up today! Each month, via email, Cocoa Daisy sends out a link to a full sheet of printable paper. This month, it was a beautiful cloud background that can be used over and over.

The first card that I created was this pop-up tent card to send to my grandkids. I saw a photo on Pinterest of a card that looked similar to this and was made with dies. Since I don't have a die cutting machine that uses dies, I decided that I could recreate this using my Silhouette machine. I can tell you that it was a good way to spend a whole quarantine day. I probably cut out the prototype 8 times for each part before I got it just right but I'm happy with the final product and I loved using several of the items from the Up and Away kits.
For the outside of the card, I used a small scrap of the floral paper from the Planner kit and I printed a sentiment on the front that tied in with our quarantine status and the tent in the card. I also used a few of the gorgeous glitter dots from the Book Club kit from September of 2019 in the corners.
I just can't wait for my grandkids to open this card. My sweet granddaughter has a wonderful imagination and will have a whole story about the family that is camping in this tent. I used the striped paper from the Planner kit for the tent and the red and orange cording from the Traveler's Notebook Memory Keeping Kit. I cut down the flag bunting stickers from the Traveler's Notebook Memory Keeping Kit to be more in proportion with the scale of the scene. I pulled papers from June 2019 (green and yellow), from November 2019 (light blue) and October 2019 (orange) to complete the campsite. I just love how the Cocoa Daisy papers coordinate from one month to the next, so that you can use them long after the month is over.
The next card that I created was much simpler and it came together in less than 30 minutes. I used the email printable for the background and added some washi from my stash, along with a scrap of leftover paper from the August 2019 kit, the balloon die cut from the Planner kit and the "You Make Me Smile" rainbow die cut from the Memory Keeping: Pocket kit. I think that this will brighten my mother's day when she gets it in the mail.

This wiper card looks much harder than it actually was and I just love how the sentiment pops up when you open it. This gorgeous blue and teal paper from the Planner kit looks great paired with one of the papers from the December 2019 kit. The die-cut from the Planner kit and the heavyweight sticker from the Memory Keeping: Pocket kit just makes this whole card such a fun bit of mail.
My final card to share with you today just warms my heart. I think it's good for all of us to remember that while times are strange and everything feels uncertain, good things are happening. I just love how this kit is a breath of sunshine and hope and I have loved using this kit to make cards to send to my family and friends. For this card, I used the email printable again for the cloud background, a couple of papers from the January 2020 kit (pink and blue) and a paper from the June 2019 kit (green).
I hope that you enjoyed looking over my projects from the past week. I certainly had a great time putting these cards together and I know that my loved ones will appreciate that I made them a card by hand.
