Hello friends, We're focusing on mixed media in our designs today. Mixed media can be a complex layer of mediums or something as simple as a bit of texture paste applied to a pocket card with a stencil or a few drops of water color on your background. Our design team has created layouts using Solstice and our Halloween kit using a wide variety of mixed media techniques. They are simple to extremely artsy in nature, therefore I encourage you to grab a cup of coffee or tea and sit back and enjoy today's mixed media tour! Let's take a look at Korrie-ann's mixed media design in her traveler's notebook. "I had so much fun creating this layout in my Simple Dori. I wanted the background to be a little more transparent so I added a coat of gesso over both pages, this also then prepares the pages for using the acrylic paint." "My main focal point is the pocket card so I used this and added my paints and some distress ink using my stencils. I really wanted to incorporate the stamps from both the memory keeping kit and the pocket memory keeping kit, and I've added popping out from behind my pocket card." "For the left-hand page, I created the little cluster in the corner to balance out my design and added the washi tape with one of the chipboard pieces. It was missing something so I have added the vellum start popping out from behind the chipboard, finishing that page with the purple enamel star." "I decided to also add the washi and enamel stars to the right-hand page. Once my pocket card was in place I added the label sticker and word stickers from the memory keeping box kit.  I then finished off my pages by stamping up the edges of both sides of the pages." As Korrie-ann showed us, mixed media in your Simple Dori TN is totally possible and with a bit of gesso, you can build layers just as you would in a more traditional layout. Now let's see what Audrey has for us today. "As soon as my Halloween box came in I knew I had to create a 12x12 layout, again, of little me using the boo-tiful papers in the kit. For this layout I played with texture and dimension to make the ghostly photo of little me come alive." "I wanted the main element of this layout to be a title. So, I cut out the title 'Audrey the Friendly Ghost' on my Silhouette rotating the eight different patterns of paper from the kit. After I glued them down, I splattered some ink from my stash around the page. This added some dimension." "Next, I used an orange embroidery floss from my stash to embroidery around the words 'Audrey' and 'Ghost.' I chose not to embroidery the words "the friendly" because they were too small and I didn't have enough floss! The embroidery added some texture to my layout, making it pop!" "Finally, I completed this layout by popping up the 3x4 photo of little me (age 4) with pop dots from my stash and scattering some embellishments (the puffy stickers, die cuts and chipboard) from the kit around the words and photo. Again, these embellishments added texture and dimension to this mixed media layout. There is so much more that I can do with this special edition Halloween kit!! You can see a process video of how this came together along with a kit unboxing on my YouTube channel." We love this absolutely adorable design by Audrey using our Halloween kit! Our final design for today is a bold documentation of some street Art that Evy recently admired. Evy used a lot of layers and so this is a more complex design but can be achieved with just a few products along with time and patience. "In this month I took a lot of photos of murals and this one particularly impressed me. I thought the Solstice kit colors made the perfect match!" "I wanted to make a layout with a background that gave the effect of a wall and I played a little with distress (oxide and ink), gesso and stencil." "Below the photos I have combined different paper from the solstice kit and the vellum that I cut with big shot . I added vellum stars, diecuts and colored the wooden embellishments with oxides." "Finally, I distressed the blank paper and inserted the journaling tag under the edge. I added some enamel stars and some stamps as a finishing touch." Evy's artsy layout is amazing and filled with lots of detail created with mixed media. As one of our DT member's remarked, "creepy but in a beautiful kinda way."
