Inspiring Ways to Include Solstice Stars in Your Layouts
Hello friends,
Our theme today is "starry starry night," which is all about the stars. The star shape provides limitless possibilities for your memory keeping and planner layouts. We've got some fun designs to inspire you to work with all the star things in our Solstice kits and to create some stars with kit papers and washi tape. Let's begin with my design which is a flip-out in my 52 Favorites album. I used planner kit items, memory keeping ephemera, and washi tape to create my layout.
Lately I have been obsessed with black and white photos in my memory keeping and the blue distressed paper in the planner kit was the perfect compliment for my special full page TN photo. The photo is printed on 28lb premium bright white inkjet & laser paper from Staples. It is perfect for a Traveler's notebook because it's not heavy but takes stamping well, can be used for printed journaling, and of course photos too.
I love the distressed look and it's my favorite for hand stitching too. And you know I fell in love with those blue sparkly stars in the planner kit as well as the blue enamel stars in the memory keeping kits. Ohhh, and the striped washi was perfect for making large matching distressed stars! I love the way the stars lead the viewer around the page so that you see all the things I have going on! Did you notice I all the stamping in grey ink? If you look closely you an see the "to the moon," a tall word phrase, and the little dot and cross pattern stamps on the cover of my flip out.
The inside is a love letter to my angel pup about his birthday and some of the things I miss most about him. I wanted to keep this simple and to ensure my journaling stood out. I printed on white thick cardstock to keep the design on the flip side of the paper hidden. Click here to view a little video of my flip out.
In the beginning of scrapbooking for me, I was very rigid and would not have been comfortable adding texture to my layouts. Now I can't get enough of it and creating things that sit outside the pocket? Well that is fast becoming my jam. I love all the possibilities to create something that is truly your own with the pocket and TN kits.
Next we have a beautiful 12x12 design by Audrey. "I knew the moment that I received the Solstice kits they would be perfect to document the concert under the stars that my husband and I attended in Mexico in January 2020, before the world shut down. The purples, blues and golden yellows combined with the stars in this kit was just wonderful for this 12x12 story. My layout is complex, filled with a lot of juicy details and all the fun embellishments from the kit. Let us dive in and take a look at some of the details."
"I knew that I wanted to use a black background for this themed layout and because my background is black, I focused on using some of the lighter papers from the kits including the beautiful piece of star gold vellum to break up the black background. Another way to de-emphasize some of the dark color was to add the splattered metallic paint from my stash in purple and gold. I also scattered some die cuts around the photo, which is the focal point of my layout and used the starburst stamp and gold ink from my stash to pull this photo cluster together."
"Around the layout I scattered some of those beautiful gold vellum stars that came in the kits. I just love these stars, the sweet golden color contrasts so well with the black background. To create some dimension within the layout, I embroidered a star within the stars using embroidery floss. Next I scattered some of the sequins from the Memory Keeping Classified kits around the layout which help break up the monotony of the black background. I also placed an enamel star near each of the embroidered vellum stars. I am always a huge fan of enamel shapes, which often are in Cocoa Daisy kits!"
"Finally, I used a white gel pen from my stash to write my journaling in the black space at the top of my layout. To get straight lines, I used a pencil and a ruler to draw lines. After the ink dried, I erased the lines. Also notice how I placed one of the chipboard circles from the Memory Keeping kit up here alone with one of the embroidered stars. This small embellishment cluster also helps to break up the monotony of the black background."
