How to Use Stamps to Create Texture in Your Memory Keeping and Planner Pages
By Cocoa Daisy
Hello and happy Friday!
Today we are exploring ways you can use stamps to create texture when documenting your stories and plans. Stamps can be used with many types of mixed media including embossing powder, gelli plates, water colors, special inks such is distress oxide, and mixed media powders which are embossing powders mixed with chunkier bits. You can also use stamps to create a simple background for your project which is how Evy chose to add texture in her Simple Dori TN layout.
"I haven't been doing a project for a while using stamps as a background but these August stamp sets inspired me!"
"On the right page I simply made a lot of stamps using the various phrases in the stamps, I added the photo with a tag and 2 diecuts."
"On the left page, on the other hand, I used a paper cut and glued as a background, I created the title using a stamp, alpha stickers and a die cut. I added a handwritten caption."
"I really like the contrast between black and green that is between the backgrounds but also in the photo." A truly lovely memory keeping layout with cute little details! Next we have Korrie-ann's design."I was excited to try this one, I had received a gelli plate as a birthday gift and wanted to try making my background using it."
"Using a brayer I added my paint to the plate and then placed it on my paper. I had placed it off the edge slightly so once I had lifted the plate from the notebook I still had some of the paint on it. I don’t like to waste anything so I decided to use it on the opposite page leaving as much white space as I could."
"I layered my photograph with one of the pocket cards and placed it nearer the bottom of the page and used the stamps to add more detail to my background. Next, a cluster of die cuts in the top corner with flowers I cut in half and added that to the opposite page giving me two die cuts from the one.""My photo is from snapchat, I have an obsession of taking the photos with the animal ears so I thought the puffy sticker ‘photograph’ was perfect and using the alpha stickers I added the words Snap chat." "On the right side of my layout I used the limited edition pocket card. I love the pocket card and had to use it as the colours are perfect. I then finished my layout with matching coloured hearts and another couple of the arrows from the puffy Sticker sheet." Korrie-ann showed us that you can stamp on top of a painted background to create a lovely textured effect. It's important to note that it's best to use a bit of gesso on your pages if you are going to use mixed media in your planner or on patterned paper that is not meant to hold liquid.
