Big Impact: Little Details
Hello, friends!
Today, we are sharing some fun with the contrast of big and small elements on a page. When including an element like an enlarged photo, it helps to pair the big element with smaller details.  The Treetop Canopy Collection plays well with this idea as there are so many large-scale designs on the papers and tags along with tiny, delicate embellishments like the die cuts, stickers, enamel dots, labels, and stamps. We have three eye-catching designs from our Memory Keeping Team that demonstrate this large-small contrast with a few other tips to try.
Natasha's layout draws you in with her big element but keeps your attention with her fun little details.
"I am head over heels for the new Treetop Canopy Collection! I just love all the bright colorful patterns that bring so maybe great stories to life. For the month of March, I am challenging myself to create a variety of projects only using the Treetop Canopy Traveler's Notebook Memory Keeping Kit, which has been such a fun exercise in stretching my creativity by using a limited set of supplies. I used this self-imposed challenge to guide the materials I selected for this project.
For this layout, I knew that I wanted to use the rub on alphas from the kit to add depth and detail to the mixed media background paper. If using alphas to build a background on your next papercraft project, I recommend rotating the letters in different directions to focus on a pattern and flow versus your eye trying to spell something out. With the large photo serving as my main focal point, I used paper layers as well as repeat stamping to add those small beautiful details that come together to frame the photo. Once I had my background set, layers all placed, my final touch was to add a few embellishments to draw your eye in and make that overall big impact.
What a cool way to use the alpha rub-ons! We are saving this tip, especially for those alpha sheets those half-used alpha sticker sheets. Adhering a large element onto a bag or pocket allows for some room for hidden journaling and keeps the design clutter-free. Don't forget to head to Natasha's YouTube channel to see her process video!

Ashley creates a beautiful design that incorporates her big element into her little details.
"Hello, I am so ready for Spring! It’s the season of fresh starts and new beginnings. I love watching the flowers blossom around the house because it reminds me to embrace change and keep growing.
For this layout, I had a lot of fun playing with circles. First, I printed two duplicate 4x6 photos of some roses blooming. Next, I cut a large 4” circle out of one photo and adhered the circle to the center of the page. This acts as the main focal point. I used the second photo to punch out smaller circles in various sizes from 3” to 5/8”, and I added foam tape to some of them to create extra dimension.
The smaller circles scattered around the page make it feel light and airy like springtime. At the top of the page, I added a die-cut from the Treetop Canopy Modern Memory Keeping Kit, and I used alpha stickers from the Treetop Canopy Classified: Memory Keeping Kit to spell “bloom”.
I created another embellishment cluster at the bottom of the page to balance out the layout. A chipboard sticker from the Treetop Canopy Modern Memory Keeping Kit and a clear phrase sticker from the Treetop Canopy Memory Keeping Sticker Kit were the perfect embellishments to complete the page. Ashley's design is simple but so impactful with the use of the photo circles in different sizes and perfectly place embellishments. We love Ashley's idea to print two of the same photo and use different parts of the photo in the final layout.

"For my layout, I really wanted the large photo of the GORGEOUS mural to be the main focus, while still using the gorgeous bits and pieces of the Treetop Canopy Collection. I decided that this would best be achieved by keeping the details I used on the rest of the layout on the smaller side.
In order to do this effectively, though, I did need to include one larger element on the opposite page to "anchor" the spread, so I chose to create a flip-out using the kraft tag + a journal card adhered by the fun washi.
When you open the card, you're treated to a collage of circular embellishments interspersed with dainty chipboard hearts that mimic the embellishment cluster over the photo, creating balance across the page.
Traci does a fantastic job balance the full-page photo with simple embellishments throughout the spread. Similar to adding a pocket behind a photo, creating a flip gives you more room to document and embellish which still keeping a clean design.
