Tai Cortes: Scrapbooking with Take Flight Collection

Hello, my crafty friends! It’s Tai and I am here sharing a project using the Take Flight 12x12 Scrapbooking Kit available on the Cocoa Daisy site. The patterned papers, colors, and illustrations in this collection are beautiful with the kites and hot air balloons. I selected the striped paper to do some paper weaving.

First, cut the paper into individual strips. I did not use the dark coral stripe. Instead, I added in a few from the mint side. To paper weave, I like to start with all the vertical or all the horizontal strips on the page. Then, I weave the opposite direction under and over across the paper. It will move and get wonky from time to time. Just be patient and continue with all your stripes.

After weaving the strips, I adjusted the spacing between the strips to look even. The strips went across the whole white 12x12 paper, but I decided I would like a white border around the edge. This required steady hands to cut off about a 1/2 inch on each paper stripe so that it fits nicely in the middle with a white border all the way around. Once I was happy with the placement, I applied liquid glue gently to maintain the placement of my paper pieces.

With its symmetrical appearance, the layout lent itself to a nice grid design. I had just received my Persnickety box, with prints measuring 4x4. I went through them and had a collection of photos from the recent state fair we attended. I chose three for this layout and left the fourth box clear for a title and embellishments.

‘Smiling All Day’ was my title with the puffy alphas from last month's collection. They were a bit bigger and then I added almost the whole sheet of puffy stickers around the boarder and a few for each photo. The raindrop enamel stickers were the perfect final embellishment to scatter around the page like confetti. The colors work perfectly with my photos. We enjoyed our day at the fair and it's the perfect layout to remember those memories.
